  8. maintain VS sustain
 
  maintain vt.
 
  意:continue to have it, and do not let it stop or grow weaker.
 
  例:After the divorce, their father still maintained close contact with the boys.
 
  sustain vt.
 
  意:continue it or maintain it for a period of time.
 
  例:He has sustained his fierce social conscience from young adulthood through old age.
